Q: What items do you accept?

A: We are currently accepting devices that will enable a student to learn, including: laptops, Chromebook, Macbooks, iMacs, desktops, cell phones, and tablets.


Q: What items are NOT acceptable?

A: Printers, monitors, gaming consoles, GPS devices or any other device that will not directly allow a student to learn will NOT be accepted.

Q: Is shipping free?

A: To qualify for free shipping, we apply “dream points” to each device based on the information you provide through the donation portal.To receive a free shipping label, you must accumulate a total of 104 points per each device you submit (i.e. if you submit 4 devices, your total points must be over 416 points). If you do not qualify for free shipping, you can still send us your devices at your own cost and be sure to include the unique donation number we provide at checkout. 

Q: How do I send my devices?

A: If you qualify for free shipping you can drop off your units at any FedEx. On our portal we provide maps with FedEx locations closest to you. If you don’t qualify for free shipping, and pay to ship your devices to our facility, we also provide FedEx, USPS, and UPS locations nearest to you. 

Q: How is my data secure?

A: Your data security is our top priority. Your donated devices will be received at our facility where all data will be wiped from the device to NIST SP 800.88 or DOD 5220.22-M standards . You will receive a certificate of data destruction for each device donated. 

Q: How is my data removed?

A: Digital Dreams Project  follows all NIST and Department of Defense (DOD) guidelines for executing all ISO procedures. We are Certified ISO 27001 for media sanitization process standards to ensure 100% data safe outcomes, with redundancy and quality checks. All media is erased utilizing certified drive erasure programs that are compliant with NIST SP 800.88 or DOD 5220.22-M standards. Our data overwrite process is audited monthly to ensure compliance with the most up to date erasure standard, in accordance with National Institute of Standards and Technology guidelines for Media Sanitation.

A: We have many Digital Dream Project partners that are large businesses and we’d love to connect to make an impact with your organization’s devices.

Q: Do you accept monetary donations if I don’t have a device to donate?

A: Yes, you can donate funds here

Q: When will I receive my Certificate of Data Destruction?

A: Please allow up to 30-days from Digital Dreams Project receiving your donation to process and wipe all data from your device(s). DDP will email you an serialized Certificate of Data Destruction. 

Q: How to reset your iOS (iPhone/ iPad) devices?

A:

  1. To reset your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > Reset and then select Erase All Content and Settings.

  2. If you've got an iCloud backup set up, iOS will ask if you'd like to update it, so you don't lose unsaved data. We advise you to follow this advice, and tap Back Up Then Erase.

  3. After typing in your passcode (if you've set one), you'll get a warning box, with the option to Erase iPhone (or iPad) in red. Tap this.

  4. You'll need to enter your Apple ID password to confirm the action. The device will be wiped and go back to the initial setup screen you saw when you first used the device.

  5. You can also fully reset your iPhone or iPad through iTunes or Finder (depending on whether you've updated to macOS Catalina or not). When you plug in your iOS device, you should see a 'Restore iPhone' button, which will fully reset the device.

Your iPhone or iPad is now ready to donate.

Q: How to reset your PC?

A:

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.

    (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

  2. Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.

  3. Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

  5. When prompted, choose Erase Data Thoroughly.

Q: How to reset your Android smartphone?

A:

  1. Make sure the device is plugged in or has enough battery to go through the reset process.

  2. Open the Settings app.

  3. Select System.

  4. Expand the menu by hitting Advanced.

  5. Go into Reset options.

  6. Hit Erase all data (factory reset).

  7. Tap on Erase all data.

  8. Enter your PIN if prompted.

  9. Select Erase all data to begin the erasure process.
